Researchers have warned that eating one egg a day may also lead to diabetes. Longitudinal study of Chinese medical VV and Qatar in China (1991–2009) found that those who ate more than one egg a day were 60% more likely to develop diabetes, most notably among women. The epidemiologist and public health expert involved in the study, Ming Li, said the rise in diabetes was an increasing concern. Diet is a sufficient cause of type 2 diabetes. The British Journal of Nutrition reported that egg consumption increased sharply in China from 1991 to 2009, and the number of egg eaters doubled during this period. Researchers say there is a need for more research into the role of egg eating and diabetes in Chinese. The China Health-Nutrition Survey surveyed 8,545 people.
